Tag Rugby 2013

Peter Swanipole from the Leinster Rugby branch will be doing a 6 week tag rugby course with all first and second year PE classes starting next Monday16th September until midterm break. One PE class a week will be dedicated to rugby.

For the first time in our school's history we competed in two rugby matches.  After six weeks of coaching from Leinster Youths Coach David Farrelly our 2nd years played games against Coláiste Pobal Roscré and St. Brendan's Community School, Birr.  It took some time for the boys to acclimatise to the poor weather conditions but when they did Banagher College ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of Banagher 31, Roscré 14.

In our second game we were underdogs against a more experienced Birr side.  However spearheaded by Oisín Kelly (scrumb half), Roana Butler (centre), Rory Martin (wing), Patrick Shea (loosehead) and William Phair (second row) we ran out gallant victors on a scoreline of Banagher 24, Birr 21.

We would like to sincerely thank David Farrelly for his tremendous work with the lads.  Also thanks to Birr Rugby Club for the use of their facilities.
