Head boy/Head girl/Prefects

In Banagher, Coláiste Na Sionna we have a system of student involvement and responsibility which has worked exceptionally well for many years.  Each class group votes for a Prefect and Deputy Prefect.  The tutor then brings those names forward to the whole staff who discuss and ratify the appointments.  The most important prefects in the school are Head Boy and Head Girl.  These students not only have responsibility for day to day class representation, but will also take an active and visible role in many formal school functions and gatherings during the academic year. Practical duties like ensuring morning and afternoon registers are available and marked by tutors, bringing class opinions and problems to the notice of staff members, watching out for other class members on a daily basis, are vitally important.  But these are coupled with strength of character, reliability and maturity.  Class Prefects, Head Boy, Head Girl and deputies are to be congratulated for their great work to date. Well done! College

The practical day-to-day responsibilities of class prefects include taking an active part in ensuring registers are available each morning for roll call, informing school authorities of any relevant issues which arise from day-to-day, and representing their various class groups, as spokespersons to relate the thoughts and feelings of their fellow class members.

There are also many formal occasions when class prefects and especially the Head Boy and Head Girl are called upon to officiate and organise, speak and publicly thank the many guests who visit the school premises.

As well as the more mundane tasks undertaken by the prefects, the underlying characteristics which must be displayed at all times are those of trustworthiness, honesty, respect, ability to use initiative and of course leadership. For this reason the election of students to those very important positions has always been taken very seriously in the school. The honour of being elected to a position of responsibility within the school system will be carried right through second level and will provide a positive asset for inclusion on any C.V., Coláiste Na Sionna is indeed fortunate to have such a great number of capable and responsible students from which to choose. Heartiest congratulation to all who were successfully elected. BanagherCollege
