High Achievements

Banagher College, Colaiste Na Sionna enjoyed numerous high achievements during the past year. The following are some of the highlights:

 
  • Having achieved 520 points in her Leaving Certificate, Aisling O’Loughlin was awarded the Corn Ui Mháille.
 
  • Michael Brophy obtained 9 Grade A’s in Higher Level Papers in his Junior Certificate Examination.
 
  • As the results of her extremely high mark in her Junior Certificate Mathematics, Maura Shields has been invited to take part in Master Classes run by Irish Universities.
 
  • Second Year students, Ava Dooley and Danielle Robinson received the Keating Cup at the School’s Awards Day Ceremony. They each obtained 100% in their mathematics examinations at the end of First Year.
 
  • Thirty students were presented with Gaisce Certificates – the President’s Award. Four students received silver awards.
 
  • Una Flynn represented Ireland in Karate in Helsinki. In winning two bronze medals, she did her school and her country proud.
 
  • Transition Year students invented a Board Game – Farmer on Board which won First Prize at the All Ireland Schools Enterprise Awards. They featured on RTE’s programme “Pobal” and won a trip to Malta.
 
  • Pádraig Meaney was the winner of the inaugural €3,000 Banagher Concrete Sponsored Scholarship awarded to an outstanding student who has chosen to study Engineering at third level.
 
  • Thirty two students successfully completed the internationally recognised ECDL course in conjunction with West Offaly Training.
 
  • David Murray was awarded a Scholarship to Galway Mayo Institute of Technology.
 
  • Siobhan Flannery and Linda Sullivan won All Ireland Minor B Camogie medals for Offaly.
 
  • Patrick Maher won an U-21 Munster medal playing hurling with Tipperary.
 
  • Because of her extremely high achievements in both Mathematics and Science, Rhona Lynch was invited to take part in the Irish Science Olympiad.
 
  • Following competitive auditions, Audrey and Rhona Lynch have secured places to play violins with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland. They have already given recitals, with the Orchestra, at the University of Limerick and the National Concert Hall.
